Canon DSLR Free Workshop

My dad gifted me a Canon EOS 550D DSLR recently. He bought the camera in Singapore on his way back from Australia, at the COMEX 2010. The camera is known as EOS Rebel T2i in US and EOS Kiss X4 in Japan. The advantage of buying in Singapore was that, we got a lot of freebies – Camera Bag, Professional Tripod, Spare Battery, 1 Year India Warranty, 320 GB Portable HDD etc.

For new DSLR owners, Canon conducts a free 3-Day workshop at its ‘Canon Image Lounge’ – Bangalore, Gurgaon and Mumbai. I took part in this 3-Day free workshop in Bangalore on the 9th, 10th and the 16h of October 2010. The workshop was conducted by their in-house DSLR specialist Mr. Sana-ur-Rehman. The workshop was conducted over 3 days in 3 parts:

Explore Your EOS Part – I: The part I of the workshop covered the following topics – Camera handling, Camera modes, Exposure, Aperture, Shutter, Depth Of Field, AF Points Usage, Understanding histograms, ISO and Auto White Balance Settings

Explore Your EOS Part – II: The part II of the workshop covered the following topics – Different sensors & its effect on images, Color tones, Custom white balances, Exposure Metering, Difference between JPG & RAW, DPP software usage

Explore Your EOS Part – III: The part III of the workshop covered the following topics – Lighting Effects & creativity, Portrait Photography, Macro Photography, Practical assignment

It’s a great and a must-attend workshop for those who are starting with DSLRs. Though I have used my dad’s ‘Yashica’ SLR long back and have been using a Canon Digital camera for quite sometime, I have never been educated about photography/camera in a professional way. This workshop takes you out of the ‘AUTO’/’AIM-nd-SHOOT’ mode. I would recommend all Canon DSLR buyers to attend this workshop – anyways it’s free!

We had a good participation during these 3 days and we have now formed our own group in Facebook and have planned to stay in touch with Sana-ur-Rehman.
